*Note - There are some subtle, and sometimes not so subtle regional differences in basic footwork. These differences are neither right ... or wrong ... they are just "Variations". Accomplished dancers have learned them all. BUT the basic body positions are pretty much the same regardless if you are from Connecticut, California, Texas, etc, etc ... Most accomplished dancers know multiple footwork variations for all the basic patterns, to make the dance both more interesting to dance ... and watch..
